Sarah Dvergsten

Sarah L. Dvergsten, age 47, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at her home in Storm Lake after a long battle with cancer. Memorial services will take place Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. A private family burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Sarah Lenee’ Dvergsten was born May 17, 1975 to Daniel and Cristy (Rubel) Hegarty in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove. In 1989, Sarah was confirmed in her faith at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, where she remained a lifelong member. Growing up, Sarah attended school at Hawthorne Elementary in Sioux City then Charter Oak-Ute Elementary School. In 1993, she graduated from Storm Lake High School. Sarah attended college at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating cum laude in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Sarah was united in marriage to Benjamin B. Dvergsten on June 6, 1998 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Tyler, Samuel, and Charles. Sarah’s favorite job was being a mom. She said it was all she ever really wanted to do and was the most important job of all. She treasured the time spent with each of her children and always looked forward to cheering them on at all their sporting events. Throughout Sarah’s life, she worked various jobs. She worked at Principal Financial in Des Moines, then later at BVRMC Fitness and Health Center as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. She also worked part time for Rosene, Pickhinke, and Peters helping with tax returns. She served her community on the Storm Lake Community School District Foundation Board, Friends of the Library Board, Storm Lake Athletic Boosters, P.E.O. Member, and was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church bell choir. Left to cherish Sarah’s memory are her husband, Ben Dvergsten of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Tyler, Samuel, and Charles Dvergsten; parents: Dan and Cris Hegarty of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother: Greg (Katie) Hegarty of Fort Collins, Colorado; sisters: Mia (Joe) Hegarty-Roach of Algona, Iowa; Emily Lampe of Algona, Iowa; parents-in-law: David and Barbara Dvergsten of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law: Margo (Nathaniel) Kitzrow of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law: Chris (Jessica) Dvergsten of Clemson, South Carolina; extended family and many friends. Sarah is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Donald and Patricia Rubel; and her paternal grandparents: George and Lorene Hegarty.
