Verna Edna Price

Verna E. Price, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, March 27, 2015 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Verna Edna Rothmeyer was born December 12, 1921 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lucy (Mattes) Rothmeyer and died at age 93 on March 20, 2015. Verna was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church, an only sister to six brothers and was somewhat of a tomboy. She attended grade school in Decorah and graduated from Carroll county school in 1939. She attended beauty school in Omaha and worked briefly as a hairdresser before WWII. During the war Verna worked in California for three years at Lockheed aircraft as a riveter on wing sections of the B2 bomber. After the war she moved to Carroll, Iowa with her daughter Janet from her first marriage to Edmund Proulx. In 1955 she married Norman Price, moved to Storm Lake and was blessed with two children, Jackie and Brian. Verna worked in the quality control department of Vilas and Co. and in her home she was an accomplished seamstress, clothing her family and also learning to knit sweaters and crochet afghans. The happiness of her marriage with Norman included square dancing, many camping excursions, and traveling to every state in the union, Newfoundland, and Mexico. Verna cherished time with family and friends, and as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all who know and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Janet (Dr. James DeMars) of Tempe, Arizona, Brian (Connie) Price of Cape Coral, Florida; grandchildren: Joseph (Julia) DeMars, Shawn Jeffrey, Nicholas (Malissa) Jeffrey, Pauli (Angel) Escobeda, Stephanie and Taylor Price, Sara, David, and Daniel Murad; great grandson Christopher Jeffrey; brother Bob (Rose Mary) Rothmeyer of Bel Air, Maryland, sister-in-law Letty Stender of West Side, Iowa, and 22 remaining nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman, daughter Jackie Jeffrey, grandson Christopher Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Michele Price, infant sister Martha, brothers Clarence, Mathias, Andrew, Richard, and Walter.
