Velma Totten

Velma Lucille Totten, age 78, of Rembrandt, Iowa died on July 17, 2021 at her home in Rembrandt, Iowa. Graveside Services will be Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa. Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family will not be gathering for a reception after the graveside ceremony. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes in Storm Lake are in charge of arrangements. Velma L. (Rassler) Totten was born on May 4, 1943 in Varina, Iowa. The daughter of Albert and Isabelle (Boettcher) Rassler. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Varina, Iowa and later confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. As a young adult she was blessed with a son, Rob Rassler. On August 23, 1975, she married Gordy Totten. Together they ran Totten Auction Service. As a youth she did detasseling, car hop waitress, later in life worked at the Canning Factory Vilas company, managed Lakeshore Café, worked at Melody Lanes and managed Lamplighter Lounge. Velma was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders in her yard. Spring was her favorite time of year when everything was new and fresh. She enjoyed her road trips to Missouri to visit family. Velma especially liked baking and cooking for a crowd around the holidays with family. She is survived by her family; son, Rob (Penny) Rassler of Roach, Missouri; granddaughter, Jessica (Austin) Underhill of St. Charles, Missouri; great-granddaughter, Ophelia Underhill of St. Charles, Missouri; stepchildren: Jay (Kristen) Totten of West Bend, Wisconsin; Jim (Heather) Totten of Albert City, Iowa; Jill (Bill) Morris of Pleasantville, Iowa; brother, Ken (Becky) Rassler of Rembrandt, Iowa; sisters: Annabelle (Ron) Chindlund of Storm Lake, Iowa; Peg Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Nadine Meyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sally Rassler of Rembrandt, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Gordy Totten; parents: Albert and Isabelle Rassler; sister, Vernice Buckendahl; brothers: Ray Rassler; Edmund Rassler; brothers-in-law: Jerry Buckendahl; Kelly Meyer; nephews: Troy Chindlund; Scott Chindlund.
