Ruth Irene Wilson

Ruth "Irene" Wilson, age 74, of Newell, Iowa died Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell. Visitation will take place Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. There will be a private funeral and burial. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth Irene Rice Rogers Wilson was born on August 1, 1939, in Osceola, Iowa. But her life truly began when Orville and Margaret Rogers adopted her on December 28, 1947, being welcomed and accepted into the Newell community. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the First Congregational Church of Newell where she also taught Sunday school, was a deaconess, Sunday school superintendent, and belonged to Women's Guild. Her unwavering faith and strong belief in God carried her throughout her life. In high school, she participated in various activities but her favorite was basketball. She graduated in 1957 from Newell-Providence High School, and continued to keep strong, valued bonds of friendship with several of her classmates. Irene was a true and valued friend and confidant. Irene married the love of her life, Dale Wilson, on December 31, 1957. God blessed this union with three daughters: Lorelei Ann, Linda Lou, and Julie Jean. Irene was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed making countless dresses and outfits for her girls. Irene was an avid reader which led to a passion for collecting cookbooks. Irene enjoyed life, especially time spent with her family and friends. She was always up for a game of cribbage, dice, other card and board games, and an occasional trip to a casino. Irene was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young before venturing into the work force at Nobles in Sac City, IA and the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa. Dale and Irene enjoyed their homes and friends in Newell, East Okoboji, Iowa, and wintered the last 23 years Casa Grande, Arizona. Irene entered God's Kingdom of Glory on June 23, 2014, following a lengthy illness that only confirmed her strong and fierce will to live. Irene was a loyal and loving wife, mom, and grandma. She is survived by her husband, Dale of Newell, Iowa; daughters Lori (Tim) Johnson of Hartford, South Dakota; Linda (Dave) Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Julie Wilson (Pat Sutter) of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Devin Miller, Justin Johnson, Maleia Miller, Aaron Johnson (fiancé Aly Rogers), and Staci Johnson. Preceding Irene in death were her parents, Orville and Margaret Rogers; grandmother, Loula Spencer; in-laws Emery and Verna Wilson; and sister-in-law Marjorie Waggie.
