Rodney Hatlen

Rodney Hatlen, age 71, of Rembrandt, Iowa died March 13, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in Rembrandt. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice, or People for Pets in Spencer, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Rodney Allen Hatlen was born December 20, 1944 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the son of Conrad and Dorothy (Dierks) Hatlen. As an infant, he was baptized and later confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Growing up, he attended school in Rembrandt where he graduated in 1963. He furthered his education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. On January 11, 1964, Rodney was united in marriage to Linda Louise Struve at the Methodist Church in Rembrandt. Together, they were blessed with three children: Teresa Lynn “Terri”, Erica Lynn, and Trent Roderick. Through the years, Rodney served on the Rembrandt Community School Board of Education, was a trustee at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Rembrandt, and served as a Scott County Trustee. Rodney enjoyed farming, fishing, and traveling on family vacations and getaways with his wife, Linda. He also enjoyed visiting casinos and buying lottery tickets, taking rides with his faithful companion, “Benjo”, and time spent with a lifelong friend, Rich “Cat Power” Obman. He truly loved being with family, and especially the time with his granddaughter, Adrian, at the cabin on Lake Osakis, Minnesota. Rodney will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish her memory include his wife of 52 years, Linda Hatlen of Rembrandt, Iowa; children: Teresa “Terri” (Myron) Stanley of Rembrandt, Iowa; Trent Hatlen of Rembrandt, Iowa; granddaughter, Adrian Irene Hatlen of Rembrandt, Iowa; extended family and many friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Dorothy Hatlen; sister, Connie Kay Voss; daughter, Erica Lynn Hatlen; brother-in-law, Gerald Adams; mother-in-law, Leona Struve; and father-in-law, Bob Struve. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice, or People for Pets in Spencer, Iowa.
