Margaret Binder

Margaret Binder, age 93, of Alta, Iowa died January 17, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Alta, Iowa. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Margaret Marie Quirin was born August 8, 1931 on a farm south of Storm Lake, Iowa to Charles and Thelma (Schweizer) Quirin. She was baptized in January of 1932 and confirmed in September of 1945 at the Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Schaller. Margaret attended Hayes Consolidated School all twelve years, graduating in 1949. She worked for Buena Vista County A.S.C.S. from June 1949 until March 1951. On September 17, 1950 Margaret was united in marriage to Donald Lawrence Binder at the Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Schaller. This union was blessed with four children: Duane, Dennis, Lori, and Trudy. After Don returned from service in November 1952 they moved to a farm southeast of Albert City. In March 1958, they moved to a farm northwest of Storm Lake. In 2000, they retired to a home in Alta. Margaret moved to Wel-Life Assisted Living in October of 2019. On December 13, 2024, Margaret moved to Accura Healthcare of Aurelia, Iowa. Margaret passed away at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia on January 17, 2025. Margaret was a homemaker and worked outside with Don, helping with the fieldwork. Margaret was a member of the Alta United Methodist Church. She served on many committees of the church and UMW, including being funeral chairperson for many years. She served as President of Band Mothers. She was a 4-H leader for several years, a member of Truesdale Farmers Club and several Bridge Clubs. Margaret was always a sports fan, watching baseball and basketball. She didn’t miss any of her kids or grandkids’ sporting events. Margaret enjoyed her grandchildren and their friends stopping in, she always had lunch or a pop for them, depending on what time of the day they stopped in. She loved to cook, bake rolls, and pies. Anyone that stopped at her home around mealtime was always welcome to pull up a chair, she had plenty to share and loved doing it. Her memory is celebrated by those she leaves behind, including her children: Dennis (Lisa) Binder of Alta, Iowa; Lori (Jim) Radke of Omaha, Nebraska; Trudy (Myron) Hinkeldey of Alta, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Deb Binder of Terre Haute, Indiana; grandchildren: Curtis (Maranna) Binder, Jeffrey (Adrienne) Binder, Brittany (David) Bittner, Dan (Heather) Binder, Barry (Renae) Binder, Tyler (Briana) Radke, Nate (Kate) Hinkeldey, Tom (Stefany) Hinkeldey, Jordan (Jenna) Hinkeldey, great-grandchildren: Gus and Emmett Binder, Luke and John Bittner, Nate Harmes, Olivia, Lennell, and Emma Binder, Connor and Morgan Radke, Avery and Jack Hinkeldey, Elijah, Myah, Miles, and Kennedy Hinkeldey, Lawson and Ryker Hinkeldey; sister: Charlotte Binder; and sister-in-law: Charlene Quirin. She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Thelma Quirin; husband: Donald Binder; son: Duane Binder; grandson: Benjamin Hinkeldey; great-granddaughters: Chloe and Camille Binder; sister: Francis Taphorn; brother: Edward Quirin; sister-in-law: Marcia (Richard) Iehl; and brother-in-law: Floyd Binder.
