M. Jane Germann

Jane Germann, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa died February 26, 2013 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake. M. Jane Hummel was born September 1, 1930 in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Roland and Velma (Hastings) Hummel. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Robinson. Jane attended school in Robinson where she graduated second academically in her class from Robinson Township High School in 1948. She then attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Bacteriology in 1952. On June 29, 1952 Jane was united in marriage to Larry Germann in Robinson at her parentsâ€™ home. Together, they were blessed with three children: Keith, Rob, and Marcy. Jane was a faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Storm Lake. She served as Brownie Leader for her daughterâ€™s troop, served as President of Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary, and AAUW. Jane was a member of the board of Faith, Hope and Charity, and was an active member of the Elks Lodge and Daughters of American Revolution. She served on the Central Committee for the Republican Party of Buena Vista County and was on the Parade of Flags Committee. Jane loved to play cards, teaching her children and grandchildren many games, and was a regular in bridge and pitch clubs. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home and made sure all were well fed at these events. She was a talented cook who loved to prepare holiday meals for her family. Jane spent much of her younger years ferrying boys to and watching athletic events. Later in life, she was a fixture in the stands for ball games played by her grandchildren. Jane enjoyed playing golf. She played in womenâ€™s leagues and participated in two ball events with her husband for many years. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Keith (Deb) Germann of Storm Lake, Iowa; Rob (Cindy) Germann of Wall Lake, Iowa; Marcy Gale of Woodbury, Minnesota; grandchildren: Heidi (Jeff) Mason of Chicago, Illinois; Greg Germann of Iowa City, Iowa; Tonya Germann of Des Moines, Iowa; Riley Germann of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Molly Germann of Wall Lake, Iowa; Matthew Yackle of Woodbury, Minnesota; Brandon Gale of Woodbury, Minnesota; sister, Josie Legg of Houston, Texas; brothers-in-law: Roland (Judy) Germann of Junction City, Kansas; Charles (Theresa) Germann of Eureka, Illinois; extended family and many friends. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Larry in 2001.
