Lorraine Marie Glienke

Lorraine Marie Glienke, age 91, of Alta, Iowa died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in HANOVER. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements. Lorraine Marie Friedrich Glienke, daughter of August Edward Friedrich and Ida Lichtenberg Friedrich was born on April 6, 1927 in Brookings County, South Dakota. She was baptized on May 1, 1927. At the age of one, her family moved to Alta, Iowa and farmed southeast of Hanover. Lorraine attended St. John parochial school and was confirmed on March 17, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa where she was a lifetime member. She attended one year of Alta School. Lorraine was united in marriage to Henry Glienke on February 2, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover. This union was blessed with seven children: Dean, Larry, Doris, Nancy, Allan, Carol, and Bruce. Lorraine resided at Methodist Manor and entered heaven on October 7, 2018 after a seven year struggle with dementia. Lorraine and Henry enjoyed their farm south of Alta all of their lives. She was active in the church, loved to sing in the choir and served in many other areas. Lorraine was happiest spending time with her family, traveling with Henry, gardening, cooking, crocheting, and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry who died in December 2004; infant brother, Howard; infant granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Barbara Glienke; brother, Melvin Friedrich; five brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her cherished family which include her children: Dean (Cindy) Glienke, Larry (Emma) Glienke, Doris (Bill) Hott, Nancy (Steve) Myers, Allan (Dona) Glienke, Carol (Randy) Lichtenberg, and Bruce (Traci) Glienke; 19 grandchildren: Tiffany (Don) Dickson, Megan (Chris) Ruoss, Kaylan (Ross) Kempster, Joshua Glienke, Chris (JoLynn) Glienke, Paul (Angie) Hott, Heather (George) Moore, Andrew (Stephanie) Myers, Jacqueline Myers, Heidi (Kevin) Kies, Kirk (Melonie) Glienke, Halli (Tyler) Oberender, Heath (Whitney) Glienke, Greta (Mitch) Giese, Maggie (Eric) Holton, Liza Lichtenberg, Allison (Scott) Robbins, Hannah (Matthew) Sefcik, Hillary (Ryan) Friedrich; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Arliss (Susan) Friedrich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Phyllis Friedrich, Marilyn Glienke, Herman and Delores Glienke, Willard Schmidt, Marie Lichtenberg, Dorothy Hinkeldey; Ernie and Beverly Glienke, Martin and Jeanne Glienke; and many other friends and family. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa.
