Kathleen Georgia Pollard

Kathleen G. Pollard, age 94, of Schaller, Iowa died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, May 20, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Kathleen Georgia Nolte was born December 2, 1921 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, the daughter of William Frederick and Nettie Kathryn (Terryberry) Nolte. Kathleen attended school in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. She graduated in 1939, as the Salutatorian of her class of 112 students. She continued her education at Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. On September 9, 1945, Kathleen was united in marriage to Oren R. Pollard in Mynard, Nebraska. Together, they were blessed with three daughters: Kathie Rae, Barbara Sue, and Robin Annette. Kathleen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Schaller where she participated in the UMW and the other church offices. She was active in the community as a leader of the Cook Go-Getters 4-H Club. She also was a member of Friendly Neighbors, C-Con, Eastern Star, PTA, Music Mothers, and bridge clubs. Kathleen’s life was filled with many adventures. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. She was an exceptional seamstress, making gowns, holiday dresses, and patching overalls. After her daughters grew up, she enjoyed quilting. Kathleen enjoyed socializing with friends, playing in her two bridge clubs, and challenging family and friends in other board games. Most of all, cooking and baking were a passion, inheriting these skills from her mother. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Kathie (James) Mailander of Wiota, Iowa; Barbara (James) Watson of Schaller, Iowa; Robin Pollard (Christopher Camarda) of Vashon, Washington; grandchildren: Chris (Elizabeth) Mailander of Asheville, North Carolina; Sara (Jaime) Capella of Washington, D.C.; John Mailander of Carroll, Iowa; Jill (Jon) Swanson of Gretna, Nebraska; Adam (Christi) Watson of Omaha, Nebraska; Philip Swenson of Olympia, Washington; Daniel (Shaylea) Swenson of Olympia, Washington; great grandchildren: Connor and Abraham Mailander; Antonio and Marcos Capella; Andrew, Avery, and Alex Swanson; Jack and Beau Watson; extended family and many friends. Kathleen was proceeded in death by her parents, W.F. and Nettie Nolte; husband, Oren; brother, Eugene and sister, Wilma Womack; and two infant grandsons, Aren and Andrew Swenson.
