Joanne M. Pedersen, age 81, of Newell, Iowa died May 9, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements. Joanne Marilyn Janssen was born January 9, 1934 in Persia, Iowa the daughter of John and Esther (Martens) Janssen. She was baptized by the Trinity Lutheran Church Pastor on May 20, 1934 and later confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell in August 1952. Growing up, Joanne attended country school near Persia and graduated from Newell Community School. On December 27, 1952, Joanne was united in marriage to Gunnar Pedersen at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Together, they raised three children: Carol, Diane and Dale. Joanne was known for her fabulous cooking, baking and canning skills. She was a care giver to many and always willing to help out, especially at church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading. Joanne will be loving remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gunnar Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; children: Carol (Steve) Williams of Storm Lake, Iowa; Diane (Keith) Marshall of Indianola, Iowa; Dale (Dorie) Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Brenda (Kyle) Klein of Carroll, Iowa; Brian (Tatum) Williams of LeMars, Iowa; Christi Williams of Brookings, South Dakota; Greg (Robyn) Marshall of Norwalk, Iowa; Andy (Meridith) Marshall of Denver, Colorado; Leslie Marshall of Kansas City, Kansas; Kelli Erie (Peter Ganahl) Ankeny, Iowa; Kane Pedersen of Newell, Iowa; great grandchildren: Alexandria and Aiden Klein; Brady and Addison Williams; Ethan and Evan Marshall; Taevah and Canden Ganahl; sisters: Arlene (Everett) Boettcher of Blue Grass, Iowa; Sharon (James) Taylor of Maysville, North Carolina; extended family and many friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther Janssen; brother, Duane “Bud” Janssen; parents-in-law, Jens and Lillie Pedersen.
