Jack Herzog

Jack Herzog, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, February 5, 2021 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. To watch the recording of the service, please visit Jack's tribute wall. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery with Full Military Rites by the Amvets Post 66. Visitation will take place Monday, February 8, 2021 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Jack Dee Herzog was born August 10, 1933 in Nebraska City, Nebraska the son of Ralph and Edna (Wilhelm) Herzog. Growing up, Jack attended school in Nebraska where he graduated from Tech High in 1952. On June 19, 1953, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on June 11, 1957. On June 7, 1959, Jack was united in marriage to Shirley Petersen at the Central United Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they were blessed with four children: Deb, Barb, Bill and Sheryl. Jack was a member of the Storm Lake AMVETS Post 66 where he was proud to present Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Harley Hog Group. In his earlier years, Jack obtained his pilot’s license and loved flying his plane. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle to Sturgis, South Dakota, and yearly family motorcycle trips. Jack enjoyed watching Nebraska football and drinking a few beers with friends and family. In his spare time, Jack loved car shows with Dave Inman and breakfast at Hardee’s with his buddies. He also enjoyed going to the Albert City Threshermans. Family was important to Jack and he treasured spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Deb Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; Barb (JJ) Koehler of North Port, Florida; Bill (Katie) Herzog of Lakeside, Iowa; Sheryl (Terry) Waterman of Freeman, South Dakota; grandchildren: Aaron (Amber) Koehler; Jimmy Koehler; Deana Williams; Whitney (Nate) Hunter; Devin (Kylee) Williams; step grandchildren: Nick (Sam) Baack; Natalie Baack; Ethan Baack; Whitney (Trevor) Waterman; Tyson (Tammy) Waterman; Hunter Waterman; Aspin Waterman; great grandchildren: Lexi Koehler; Kamryn Jackson; and Osborne Waterman; brother, Don Herzog of Omaha, Nebraska; extended family: Carolyn Wilson of Lakeside, Iowa; Jenny (Eric) Christians of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Jamie (Jennifer) Wilson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; first cousin, Jim (Carol) Hanthorne; and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Edna Herzog; wife, Shirley Herzog; sister-in-law, Joan Herzog; son-in-law, Mike Hunter; and two grandchildren: Jennifer Koehler and Mercedes Hunter.
