Howard Eugene Stille

Howard E. Stille, age 78, of Alta, Iowa died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alta. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the beginning of the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Howard Eugene Stille was born March 21, 1937 in Buena Vista County, Iowa, the son of William and Lillie (Offerle) Stille. Howard was baptized and confirmed at the Schaller E and R Church in Sac County, Iowa. He attended school at Hayes Consolidated, graduating in 1954. On January 31, 1956, Howard enlisted into the United States Marines. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on January 30, 1958. On December 28, 1958, Howard was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Hase at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. Together they were blessed with three children: Randall, Karyn, and Sharyn. Howard spent his life working as a farmer. He farmed crops and later switched to raising turkeys. Howard was very active with his children’s extracurricular activities. He enjoyed coaching baseball, softball, and basketball, umpiring, and being a 4-H leader. Howard was an avid sports fan. He loved attending local sporting events and watching the Iowa State Cyclones and New York Yankees. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing men’s softball league. Another passion of Howard’s was his garden. He spent countless hours in his greenhouse and harvesting vegetables for himself and others to enjoy. Howard also liked puzzles and playing cards. Most of all, Howard was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Mary R. Stille of Alta, Iowa; children: Randy (Darlene) Stille of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Karyn (Dan) Waites of Storm Lake, Iowa; Sharyn (Rob) Kitto of Richmond, Texas; grandchildren: Jolene and Sara Stille of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Ryan and Katie Kitto of Richmond, Texas; Joshua and Cassidy Parks of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Marvin (Marlene) Stille of Schaller, Iowa; sisters: Dorothy (Melvin) Ploeger of Ida Grove, Iowa; Jeanette (Don) Carter of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Arletta Stille (surviving spouse of Kenneth Stille) of Sac City, Iowa; Mary E. Stille (surviving spouse of Donald Stille) of Schaller, Iowa; Connie Stille (surviving spouse of Richard Stille) of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law, Frank (Kay) Hase of Eagle Rock, Missouri; sister-in-law, Adella Schroth of Anaheim, California; many nieces and nephews, extended family and many close neighbors and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Donald, Richard (Donna Jean), Kenneth, and Russell (Pat) Stille; sister, Clarabelle Stille; sisters-in-law, Frances (Hase) Rush; brothers-in-law: Vernon (Marlyn) Hase; Robert (Berdena) Hase; Kermit (Alma) Hase; and George (Bonnie) Hase.
