Gayle Sundberg

Gayle Elaine (Wheat) Sundberg, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa left her family’s loving arms and stepped into the arms of Jesus on June 4, 2014 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa following an illness. Memorial services will be Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Gayle was born on May 9, 1935 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Chuck and Elaine (Eckelberger) Wheat, being the youngest of two children. She was baptized into the family of God at the Methodist Church on June 11, 1939 and attended school in Storm Lake. She later married the love of her life, Eldon K. Sundberg on August 19, 1953 at the Methodist Church, later transferring membership to the Church of Christ. Their marriage was a special marriage and she modeled true love to all who knew her. They were married 41 years until Eldon’s passing. She worked at the telephone office for three years then they moved to Ft. Worth, Texas. There she worked at CONVAIR helping with blueprints for the B-58. In 1961, they came back to Storm Lake where she worked back at the telephone office until it closed in 1979. She then transferred to the Sioux City office until 1991. Gayle was an active and devoted member of the Storm Lake Church of Christ. She served as deaconess, board secretary, treasurer, and was on the funeral and flower committee and sang in the choir. Gayle loved traveling, gardening and working with Eldon. She helped Eldon refurbish golf cars for S. L. Sports Center and farm until they semi-retired in 1985. Gayle loved people and continued to work at Ken-A-Bob and other places as her health would allow. Her love of animals, especially dogs, was a great comfort to her, as she gave a wonderful home to many in her lifetime. Gayle was a friend to all and was a very loving person. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wheat of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her niece, Lori Wheat of Blair, Nebraska; extended family and friends. Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; parents; and brother, Dale Wheat.
