Eileen Ruth Johnson

Eileen Ruth Johnson, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6-7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established at Unity Point Hospice or St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Eileen Ruth Borcherding was born in Hanover, Iowa, on May 18, 1924, the daughter of Henry T. and Minnie R. (Grieme) Borcherding. She was baptized at her home on June 9, 1924, by Reverend H. Wehking and confirmed on April 10, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Odebolt. She attended rural schools through the 8th grade and graduated from Early Consolidated School in 1942. She went on to receive a teaching certificate and taught children in all grades in a country school setting. She was united in marriage to Mayford A. Johnson on December 8, 1943, in Schaller, Iowa. He died September 2, 1996. Eileen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Storm Lake, Iowa. She is survived by four daughters: Rosalie M. Nehring and her husband, Richard, Des Moines, IA; Sheryl R. Anderson, Albuquerque, NM; Kathy M. Hawkins, Colorado Springs, CO; Connie L. Roche (special friend, Edgar Batiste), Storm Lake, IA; a son, Dean A. Johnson, and his wife, Kim, Harrah, OK; one brother, Vernon Borcherding, and his wife, Jackie, Scottsdale, AZ; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Borcherding, Schaller, IA. Also, surviving are 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Diane Nehring, her brother, Harry Borcherding, and her grandson, Adam Evans. At Eileen’s request, and in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at St. John’s Lutheran Church and Unity Point Hospice in Storm Lake, IA.
