Dorothy Jean Kennedy

Dorothy Kennedy, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, June 10, 2016 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, June 13, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake or Unity Point Hospice. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Dorothy Jean Franzmeier was born August 5, 1930 on a farm east of Albert City, in Pocahontas County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Edith (Beckfield) Franzmeier. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Varina, Iowa where she was later confirmed. Dorothy attended school at Albert City Consolidated School where she graduated in 1948. After graduating high school, Dorothy got a job at Citizen’s 1st National Bank. She was the first woman to hold a position of assistant cashier. She became an assistant vice president in 1969. In 1975, she became cashier, and later resigned from Citizen’s 1st National Bank in 1978 to spend more time with her family. On August 12, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to John William Kennedy at the Varina Methodist Church. Together, they were blessed with one child, Susan Kay. Dorothy was a member of United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. She also was a member of the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary and has served as treasurer of the hospital coffee shop. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, spending her time with family, and traveling. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan (Gene) Lloyd of Alta, Iowa; step-grandchildren: Darin (Laura) Lloyd of Clare, Iowa; Heather (Tim) Goche of Bancroft, Iowa; Trevor (Shelby) Lloyd of Pineville, Louisiana; Whitney Lloyd and fiancé, Nick Ford of Fort Dodge, Iowa; several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved many step-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; grand dogs whom she dearly loved: Maggie, Bandit, and Angel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lael Lessmeier of Storm Lake, Iowa; Robert Murphy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Joe (Elaine) Kennedy of Omaha, Nebraska; Veronica Koebel of Moville, Iowa; extended family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Kennedy; parents, Walter and Edith Franzmeier; sisters: Frances Lessmeier and Gladys Murphy; parents-in-law, Dan and Rosa Kennedy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marie Kennedy; Patrick and Mary Opal Kennedy; Darnell and Frances Vernia; and Leo Koebel.
