Doris June Johnson

Doris J. Johnson, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Doris June Koons was born June 11, 1921, on a farm in Scott Township in Buena Vista County, the daughter of Harry and Jennie (Walrath) Koons. Doris attended country school at Scott Center through eighth grade, then transferred to Rembrandt High School where she graduated in 1938. On October 11, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Johnson, the son of Sam and Annie Johnson. To this union there were three children born: Dennis, Judith Ann, and Joanne. Art and Doris farmed until their retirement. Together they bought a home and moved to Storm Lake in 1982. Doris worked two years for Bedel’s Pharmacy in Storm Lake, and twenty years at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center as a nurse’s assistant. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, where she was very active within the church circle. She really enjoyed making quilt tops for project groups. In her spare time, Doris liked to play bridge and 500. She belonged to several card clubs. Most of all, Doris loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dennis (Sharon) Johnson of Anthon, Iowa; Judy (Jim) Logue of Wakonda, South Dakota; Joanne (Tim) Petersen of Lincoln, Rhode Island; grandchildren: Lon (Laurie) Johnson; Lance (Gina) Johnson; Daniel (Shelly) Logue; Brian (Maureen) Logue; Stephanie (Kevin) Burtness; Amanda (Nathan) Petersen; Kelly Petersen; Cameron (Sarah) Petersen; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister; Margaret Bahl of Chicago, Illinois; extended family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters: Ruby Sangl, Annabel Reinders, and Louise Bork.
