Donna Jean Hoops

Donna Jean "DJ" Hoops, age 69, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Alta, Iowa died Friday, July 9, 2021 at her home in Storm Lake. Memorial services will take place Friday, July 16, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will take place Friday, July 16, 2021 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Donna J. Hoops was born July 30, 1951 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Marvin and Lillian (Gebers) Hoops, the youngest of four children. She was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa, and was confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Donna went to school at the Alta Community School and graduated in 1969. In 1971, Donna gave birth to her only child, her daughter Holly Rachelle. She worked hard to provide a stable and secure home for the two of them. Donna was incredibly hard-working, doing anything from office administration in Iowa to construction in Montana and Colorado. She led a very active life and loved music and travel. Donna returned home in 2015 when illness set in, to get the medical care and attention she needed. Once home, she looked forward to conversations and visits with her family and friends. She especially looked forward to her daily conversation with her friend, Jackie, who helped give her strength through their mutual love and devotion to God. Through the dedication of Donna’s family, Donna was able to live out her remaining days in her home, which was extremely important to her. Donna passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 9, 2021, at her home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Holly (Mark) Salsman of Nova Scotia, Canada; sister, Shirley Johnson of Alta, Iowa; brother, Vern Hoops of LeMars, Iowa; sister-in-law, Linda Hoops of Storm lake, Iowa; grandsons; Aric, Chris, and Kasper; granddaughter, Rykelle (Carlos); great grandson, Kaiden, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Nes Schenk; parents, Marvin and Lillian Hoops; brother, Ronald Hoops; brother-in-law, Lynn Johnson and sister-in-law, Liz Foreman.
