Darlene M. Luft, age 86, of Schaller, Iowa died on January 2, 2023, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral services will take place Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of arrangements. Darlene Luft was born June 24, 1936 to John and Evaline (Rubendall) Rhoads in Sac City, Iowa. She attended school in Sac City, graduating high school in 1954. Darlene was united in marriage with Verdeen Luft on June 13, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Sac City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children: Dean and Jolene. They also welcomed in two honorary children: Laurene and Paula. Darlene was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Schaller, Iowa. She loved serving her church as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of Ladies Aid. Darlene loved playing cards and taking trips to the casino. Darlene’s neighbors and friends enjoyed purchasing fresh farm eggs from her. More than anything, she treasured time with her family. Left to cherish Darlene’s memory include her husband, Verdeen Luft of Alta, Iowa; children: Dean Luft of Schaller, Iowa; Jolene (Brent) Turnquist of Schaller, Iowa; Laurene (John) Mills of Sioux City, Iowa; Paula Hill of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren: Heather Bubke; Andrew Mills; Neil Bubke; Rachel (Kelly) Sturtevant; Michael Mills (special friend: Janice); Brandon (Tollie) Turnquist; Wesley Turnquist; Michelle (Chris) Horton; great grandchildren: Tiffany Hanson; Mikayla Hanson; Trenten Mills; Dakota Horton; Alexis Turnquist; Allie Mills; Brock Turnquist; Walker Sturtevant; Chase Horton; Braeden Grimes; Peyton Turnquist; Connor Turnquist; Kyson Turnquist; Tanner Horton; Heaven Sturtevant; and Emersyn Horton. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents: John and Evaline Rhoads; parents-in-law: Louie and Lena Luft; brother-in-law: Calvin Luft; Mike Hill; nephew: Keith Luft.
