Chelsey Elizabeth Petersen

Chelsey Elizabeth Petersen, age 36, of Council Bluffs, Iowa and formerly of Alta, Iowa died May 12, 2026 at her residence in Council Bluffs. Memorial Services will take place Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. Burial will be at a later date in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hanover. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Chelsey was born February 1, 1990 in Storm Lake, Iowa the daughter of Kalvin and Sharon (Hansen) Petersen. She was the beloved baby girl to three older brothers. She was baptized in 1994 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa, and later confirmed there in 2004. As a child, she enjoyed competing in gymnastics. Growing up in Alta, she attended Alta High School, graduating in 2008. During high school, she was active in cheerleading, speech, and dance team. She was also known for always working two or three jobs and for her talent as a party planner. Following graduation, she attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she earned a degree in Health Care Management in 2012 and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After college, she spent a year serving with the Franciscan Volunteer Ministry in Kensington, Philadelphia. Most recently, Chelsey worked at Bethany Lutheran Health Services. She wanted to make the world more colorful. Chelsey was involved in FCA and FFA, loved animals, and had a deep passion for art. Art was truly her life, and she embraced every aspect of it. She especially enjoyed the Art Battle at the Culxr House in Omaha and BFF events at the Benson Art Gallery. In 2007, while still in high school, she won Best of Show for her piece, Lips of an Angel. Above all, Chelsey loved her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her parents: Kalvin and Sharon Petersen of Alta, Iowa; brother, Kole (Elzabeth) Petersen of Alta, Iowa; half brother, Charles (Wendy) Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa; nephews and niece; grandmother, Adrienne Petersen of Kimballton, Iowa; several other family members and friends. Chelsey was preceded in death by her brother, Gregory Petersen; and grandparents: Ronald Petersen and Bernard “Bud” and Elizabeth Hansen.
