Charles "Chuck" Barlow

Charles Barlow, age 82, of Schaller, Iowa died Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Charles Wayne Barlow was born August 2, 1932 in rural Storm Lake, Iowa the son of William and Anna (Merten) Barlow. As a child, Chuck was baptized into the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Growing up, Chuck attended grade school through 3rd grade in Truesdale and then attended Sac County country school. He graduated from Schaller High School in 1950. On January 14, 1953, Chuck was enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1954. On August 11, 1960, Chuck was united in marriage to Patricia Caton at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with two children: Michael and Susan. Chuck was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller where he served as president of the congregation, trustee, and also elder. Chuck was a member of the Schaller VFW, Farm Bureau and served on the Schaller Co-op elevator board. Chuck enjoyed woodworking and being outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Westerns and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. He also took pride in teasing his Iowa State University friends. Chuck loved his family and treasured spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pat Barlow of Schaller, Iowa; children: Mike Barlow of Lakeside, Iowa; Sue Barlow of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters: Marjorie (Thomas) Ruhberg of Chaska, Minnesota; Darlene Gilson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sisters-in-law: Donna (Henry) Linne of Coralville, Iowa; Virginia Barlow of Schaller, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cecil Barlow; sister, Betty Frank; brothers-in-law, Dick Frank and Harry Gilson.
