Barbara Jean Wadle

Barbara Wadle, 61, passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at her home in Fonda. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will take place Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 4-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements. Barbara Jean was born May 14, 1955 in St. Louis, MO to Dominick and Mary Jean (Ricks) Alessi. She earned a degree at Clark College in Dubuque, IA where she met her husband Rick. The two were married August 7, 1976 and moved to Fonda, IA where they raised four children on their family farm. Barb worked for Land O’Lakes in Fort Dodge, IA for 26 years as a computer analyst. After retiring, she enjoyed reading books, traveling with Rick and her friends, and being an active member in the church community. Above all else, she loved being Grandma Barb. There was no distance she wouldn’t travel to see her grandkids in track meets, baseball games and dance recitals, to build blanket forts and go on scavenger hunts, to stroller the streets of Brooklyn, to read bedtime stories, and to give and receive the best hugs and kisses. She is survived by her husband Rick Wadle, her four children and seven grandchildren: Kevin Wadle, Amy (Condon), Ben, Annabelle, Beau, Tait of Le Mars, IA; Melissa (Wadle) Boller, Jacob Boller, Dominick “Mickey” of Brooklyn, NY; Rachel (Wadle) Nieland, BJ Nieland, Benson and Vivian of Fonda, IA; Anthony Wadle and fiancé April Hauswirth of Fonda, IA, her mother Mary Jean Alessi, her four siblings Fred and Val Alessi, Paula and Michael Powers, Janet and Mark Lawder, John and Missy Alessi, sisters-in-law Julie Alessi, Faye Wadle, Sherry (Wadle) and Tom Loughran, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Dominick Alessi, brother Bill Alessi, grandparents Joseph and Sophie Alessi, William and Edith Ricks, in-laws Julian and Cecelia Wadle, Ron Wadle.
