Austin Khamtanh, age 55, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, April 27, 2024 at his home in Storm Lake. Traditional Buddhist Rites will take place Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Austin Somchay Khamtanh was the son of Panh and Vilythong Khamtan. He was the second oldest of 6 siblings, 1 older brother and 4 younger sisters. His siblings include brother, Viengvilay Khamtanh, and sisters, Lanoy Maloutapong, Pathouma Phrommany, Kaylyn Khamtan, and Kaydee Khamtan. Austin was born on July 5th, 1968, in Vientiane, Laos. He immigrated to the United States and was married to his previous wife and had 3 total children, Sherry, Davis, and Angela Khamtanh, including 1 granddaughter. In 2012, he met his now-spouse, Nan Mi Mi and her children, Sandar Myint and Thiha Phyo. They shared 12 loving years together as a family in Storm Lake before he passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on April 27th, 2024. He was an avid gym-goer, never missing any days to weightlift. He loved to live a healthy lifestyle. During his free time, he absolutely loved to spend time with all his family members and his pets: dog, Sheba, and cat, Haze. He enjoyed trying his luck with the Powerball and one of his biggest dreams was to win the lottery, take the family to Florida, and build a house for them. He also enjoyed singing, spending most of his afternoons karaoking with friends and family. One of his hobbies included working on landscaping at his house and doing yardwork. He was very generous in donating his time to the community by helping with yard work, maintenance, and security for events at the temple. He was always so light-hearted and positive, radiating love and kindness everywhere he went. Families remember him as a gentle-hearted, hardworking, and friendly person. He was extremely soft-spoken and stoic. He was loved by so many family and community members. Family was his number 1 priority, always making sure his siblings, nieces, and nephews were taken care of. He will be very missed and loved, but there is comfort in knowing he is reunited with his parents, whom he missed so greatly, too.
