Alice Christina Turnquist

Alice Turnquist, age 81, of Schaller, Iowa died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the beginning of the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Alice Christina Rasmussen was born on February 14, 1934 to Hans and Helen (Parker) Rasmussen in Ida Grove, Iowa. When she was two weeks old, her parents moved to a farm near Arco, Minnesota. She started school in a one room country school house until her parents moved back to a farm south of Arthur, Iowa. She began going to school in Arthur, where she later graduated. Alice married George Turnquist on August 8, 1956 in Minnesota, and to this marriage six children were born. Two sons were lost in infancy. Alice was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, deacon, session member, and helped with the Purple Gang. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women. Alice enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting and knitting. She loved caring for her family and grandchildren, baking, and keeping a warm home. Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, George Turnquist of Schaller, Iowa; Kent (Vicki) Turnquist of Schaller, Iowa; Brent (Jolene) Turnquist of Schaller, Iowa; Glenda Turnquist of Schaller, Iowa; Janet (Jim) Illum of Schaller, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Orrin (Carole) Rasmussen; sisters: Joyce (Jerry) Clark; Joanne (Chuck) Clark; Sandra (Richard) Martin; sister-in-law, Darleen Rasmussen; brother-in-law, Chuck Turnquist; extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons: Todd and Myron; brother, Lloyd and infant brother, James; sister, Peggy (Gene) Crist; nephews: Rodger Wehde, Ronald Rasmussen, Clarence Turnquist, Bob Turnquist; brothers-in-law: Donald (Letha) Turnquist; Lynn Turnquist; and Rollin (Phyllis) Turnquist.
