Agnes Emma Nelsen

Agnes E. Nelsen, age 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, December 19, 2016 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Agnes Emma Thompson was born August 13, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Maren (Larsen) Thompson. As an infant, she was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she was later confirmed in 1936. Agnes attended Longfellow School in Council Bluffs. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1942. Agnes continued her education at Jenny Edmundson Hospital where she served as a Cadet Nurse through the government during WWII. She graduated in 1945 and began her career as a registered nurse. In 1947, Agnes was united in marriage to Edward Alexius Nelsen, Jr. Together, they were blessed with five children: Tana, Diane, Thomas, Christine, and Brian. Agnes was a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She enjoyed making quilts at church and was also involved in the Circle. In her free time, Agnes enjoyed sewing teddy bears and stuffed animals, sewing clothes for porcelain dolls, and baking cookies and treats for her grandkids. She sent many “care packages” to those family members away from home. Agnes’ kind heart and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Tana (John) Doyen, Diane (Dennis) McHugh, Thomas (Julie) Nelsen, Christine (Barry) Allison, Brian (Cheryl) Nelsen; grandchildren: Sean Doyen, Sondra (Jeff) Garton, Steven Doyen, Susan Doyen, Alan (Nancy) McHugh, William (Chris) McHugh, Johanna Combest, Edward Nelsen, Shanole (Chris) Stein, Amy (Travis) Clay, Britton (Kerstin) Allison, Seth Allison, Amanda Dreher, Holden (Kelly) Jubb, Brielle Allison, Soren (Julia) Jubb, Jessica (Nick) Rich, Elizabeth Nelsen, Bryce Hettinger, Tristan Hettinger; great grandchildren: Dameon Doyen, Tasha Doyen, Kevin Doyen, Evan Garton, Lexi Kirkegaard, Julia McHugh, Jackalyn McHugh, William McHugh, Jr., Lyn Buenting, Cayla Schuetz, Colby Clay, Mara Clay, Amelia Jubb, Caitlin Combest, Brandi Combest, Andrew Combest, Auckland Stein, Sydney Stein, Eli Allison, Matt Allison, Alizabeth Rich, Charlotte Rich, Jadyn Annis, Hudson Annis; great-great grandchildren: Hunter Addisson, Thomas Hepler; sister: Betty (Charles) Stockham; extended family and friends. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward in 1995; and grandson, Thomas Alan Nelsen.
