Marvel Anderson

Marvel Anderson, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Marathon, Iowa died May 20, 2013 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Marvel Esther Herrig was born November 13, 1922 on a farm near Wall Lake, Iowa the third of nine children to Carl and Bena (Kies) Herrig. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. Growing up, she attended country school through the 4th grade and later graduated from Truesdale High School in 1940. On October 17, 1943 Marvel was united in marriage to Lester Anderson at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church west of Rembrandt, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with five children: Robert, Steven, David, Sandra, and Gregory. Marvel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon and more recently St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The Church was foremost in Marvelâ€™s life where she sang in the church choir, was a member of Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. Marvel was a member of the Tuesday Study Club along with other clubs. Playing cards with the bridge club was a favorite of Marvelâ€™s. She enjoyed volunteering her time while visiting nursing homes for many years. Lester and Marvel enjoyed traveling together, especially wintering in Arizona for 24 years and Texas for 2 years with their many friends. A loving wife and devoted mother, Marvel treasured her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her special joy. She will be remembered and missed for the friendship she offered, and her ever-present care and concern for all those she loved. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 69 years, Lester Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Robert (Joan) Anderson of Marathon, Iowa; Steven (Joellen) Anderson of Elkhart, Indiana; David (Carla) Anderson of Marathon, Iowa; Gregory (Christine) Anderson of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren: Chad (Kim) Anderson, Bobbi (Darren) Epperson, Lacey (TJ) Schmidt, Andrea (Keith) Bonanno, Derick Anderson, Zach Anderson, Lance (Christine) Anderson, Julie (Jamie) Riesselman, Carl (Krissy) Anderson, Nick Kliegl, Jordan Anderson, Shelby Anderson; great grandchildren: Alex, Amanda, Morgan, Ryan, Anderson, Megan, Katelyn, Hayden, Peyton, Matthew, Lucas, Logan; sister, Hazel Marrietta of Storm Lake, Iowa; brothers: Don (Elaine) Herrig of Albert City, Iowa; Harold (Jan) Herrig of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; sisters-in-law: Laura (Fred) Herrig of Boone, Iowa; and Helen (Russell) Herrig of Comfory, Minnesota; extended family and friends. Marvel was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bena Herrig; her daughter, Sandra Anderson; granddaughter, Marvel Anderson; brothers: Fred and Russell Herrig; sisters: Lucille Lorenzen, Irene Mohr, Delores Sennert.
