Marlene J. Erickson Barber Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marlene Joanne Erickson Barber, age 90, passed away peacefully July 5, 2022. Funeral services will take place Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Marlene was a long-time resident of Storm Lake, Iowa and Alta, Iowa prior to moving to Helena, Montana in 2018. Marlene was born February 12, 1932 to Thomas "Russell" and Alma (Lind) Erickson in Marathon, Iowa. Marlene was born and raised on the family farm in Marathon, Iowa. After graduating from high school Marlene attended Iowa State University and then finished her college degree at Buena Vista College. Marlene married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Roger Charles Barber on June 19, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Marathon. The couple was blessed with three children: Bonnie, Dean, and Jolene. Marlene loved adventurous family trips traveling numerous times to wherever there were mountains. She enjoyed short frequent trips to Martin's Access and Okoboji. She traveled to many National Parks. Some of her journeys took her to Colorado, Washington D.C., Montana, Florida, Alaska, Oregon, California, Hawaii, and Europe to Oberammergau to see the Passion Play. Marlene will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. Marlene is survived by her children: Bonnie (Ralph) Lofthouse of Beavercreek, Ohio; Dean Barber of Alta, Iowa; Jolene Devine of Helena, Montana; four grandchildren: Lisa (Tracy) Lofthouse Pingleton of Beavercreek, Ohio; Casey (Erica) Lofthouse of Lima, Ohio; Lindsay Gehring of Helena, Montana; Samantha (Jake) Allen of Helena, Montana; seven great-grandchildren: Joseph, Owen, Addison, Olivia, Dahlia, Raeleigh and Oren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents, Alma and Russell Erickson, and recently by her only sibling, Stanley Erickson.
