May 23, 1917 - May 10, 2022

Leona A. Boettcher, age 104, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the CHURCH. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Leona Alma (Buchholz) Boettcher was born May 23, 1917 at the home of her parents Fred and Ida (Hartje) Buchholz of Grant township, Buena Vista County. Leona was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 10, 1917 at Zion Lutheran Church. She reaffirmed her baptismal vows at her confirmation on March 29, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was John 5:24. She became a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. In addition to church activities and belonging to Ladies Aid, she was active in farming and housework. On April 24, 1941 she was married to Victor Boettcher at Zion Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children: Darrell of Newton, Iowa and Marjorie Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa. After being married only a short time, her husband passed away March 30, 1955 leaving her with two children. Leona moved to a smaller farm near Truesdale, Iowa and farmed for fifteen more years plus worked in town at various jobs. Leona worked at the Cobblestone ballroom for matinee dances on Sunday night. She volunteered at the coffee shop in the hospital and did housework for various people for 36 years. In 1995, she fell and broke her hip. She had to quit working and moved to McCord Manor. She was active in quilting, sewing and loved baking pies. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She kept on making things for them and enjoyed people visiting her and talking with them. Leona is survived by her children: Darrell (Linda) Boettcher of Newton, Iowa; Marjorie Miller of Storm lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Dawn (Tim) Bauer of Adel, Iowa; Chad (Lynn) Miller of Esterville, Iowa; Michael (Jennifer) Miller of Liberty Township, Ohio; Dianna Boettcher of Iowa City, Iowa; Darren (Megan) Boettcher of Ankeny, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Derek, Mia, and Palmer Boettcher of Ankeny, Iowa; Sophia and Logan Miller of Liberty Township, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death are her husband, Victor; parents: Fred and Ida Buchholz; son-in-law: Robert Miller; brothers: Art Buchholz; Walter Buchholz; Raymond Buchholz; sisters: Dora Kruse; Paula Madison; Alma Boettcher; Lea Gaes; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
