Leila Grohe

Leila L. Grohe, age 104, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on February 18, 2022, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Memorial services will take place Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Leila (Schwab) Grohe was born June 29, 1917 near Viola Center in Audubon County, the daughter of William Schwab and Anna (Bartelt) Schwab. Leila was baptized into the Christian faith at an early age and was confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Schaller, Iowa. She spent her early years with her parents, brothers, and sisters on the family farm in Audubon County where she received her education and graduation from high school. On November 14, 1936, Leila was united in marriage to Warren “Hiene” Grohe in Scranton, Iowa and moved to Schaller and was blessed with four daughters: Rosalie, Sharan, Judith, and LaRae. Leila lost her daughter Rosalie in a farm accident at the age of five. In February of 1946, the family moved to the farm where she worked side by side with Warren until they retired and moved to Schaller. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, quilting, crocheting, sewing, fishing, playing cards and being with her family. Leila is survived by her daughters: Judy Kenny of Schaller, Iowa; LaRae (Denny) Mauser of Ankeny, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Greg Currie of Montecello, Minnesota; Dan Currie of Platte City, Missouri; Brian Kenny of Schaller, Iowa; Brenda (Kevin) Grieme of Lawton, Iowa; Kurt (Laurie) Kenny of Schaller, Iowa; Christine VanderWal of Marne, Iowa; Tonia (Corey) McCoid of Ankeny, Iowa; Troy (Kathy) Mauser of Phoenix, Arizona; 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Leila was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her beloved daughters: Rosalie and Sharan; her parents, William and Anna (Barltelt) Schwab; four brothers: Roy, Lester, Karl, and Richard; two sisters: Lula and Lucille; sons-in-law: Donald Currie and Roger Kenny; grandson-in-law: Brent VanderWal; granddaughter-in-law: Noy Currie; and several nieces and nephews.
