Janet E. Pekelder Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Janet E. Pekelder, age 78, of Alta, Iowa died on June 27, 2022, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Janet Ellen Pekelder was born on February 14, 1944 to Berl and Malinda (Herrig) Irwin in Sac City, Iowa. She attended grade school in Lake View, Iowa, then graduated from Lakeview-Auburn High School in 1962. Janet was baptized as an infant on March 19, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. On March 30, 1958, she was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. As an adult, she was an active member at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Janet served in Ladies Aid and was a member of the Trinity Worship committees. On April 12, 1964, Janet was united in marriage to Rodney Johann in Lake View until his passing on December 23, 1980. On June 12, 1982, she married Robert “Bob” Pekelder Jr. in Sheldon, Iowa. Janet and Bob enjoyed traveling together as Bob worked on railroad crossings. They also enjoyed camping and remodeling their home on their acreage until his passing on January 27, 2012. Janet treasured her time with family. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and loved their time spent together. On Thursday mornings, you could find Janet enjoying a cup of coffee with her beloved friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Janet is survived by her daughter: Julie (David) Schmitz of Alta, Iowa; brothers: John (Norma) Irwin of Early, Iowa; Jerry (Sharon) Irwin of Early, Iowa; grandchildren: Kayla (Brock) Krejchi of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Christopher (Jessica) Schmitz of Boone, Iowa; Jared Schmitz (special friend, Jessica) of Sioux City, Iowa; Jordan Schmitz of Cedar Falls, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Ainsley Schmitz; Rylan Schmitz; Ava Krejchi; and her beloved dog, Dexter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Johann; husband, Robert Pekelder Jr.; parents: Berl and Malinda (Herrig) Irwin; sister: Barbara Iehl; infant brother: David Irwin; niece: Kathy Sefcik; nephew: Kevin Iehl.
