James Van Scoyk

James "Jim" Edward Van Scoyk, age 78, passed away December 6, 2021 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa. A private service for immediate family will be held, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Jim was born in Des Moines, IA on January 14, 1943 to Appleton and Mildred Van Scoyk. He was the third youngest of eight. Jim was known for his contagious personality, unconditional love, quick wit, and endless humor. Laughs and smiles were never sparse when Jim was around. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines and began a career in the restaurant industry that spanned nearly 53 years. He impacted and changed the lives of every employee. In June of 1964, Jim married Linda Simmons of Des Moines. They were married for 57 years and created a beautiful family, including 4 boys, 768 cats, 37 dogs, 2 ducks, 1 rooster and a squirrel. Jim devoted his entire life to his family and continues to influence them today. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Appleton and Mildred, siblings Lorimer, Everett, Lucille, Delores, Arnold and Larry. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda Van Scoyk of Storm Lake, IA, his children Greg (Lori) Van Scoyk of Chatfield, MN, Stacy (Kelly) Van Scoyk of De Pere, WI, Chad (Brenda) Van Scoyk of Jefferson, SD, Corey (Tiffany) Van Scoyk of Plymouth, MN, his 9 grandchildren, Sarah, Logan, Christian, Kelsey, Evan, Jackson, Easton, Owen and Ava, 2 great-grandchildren, Cecelia and Samuel, and sister Colleen Wyckoff of Arizona.
