David John Schmitt, age 50, of Alta, Iowa, died on September 20, 2019 at his residence. David was born August 9, 1969 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of James and Phyllis (Dick) Schmitt. Growing up, he was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. He attended grade school and graduated from Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School in 1988. David enjoyed bowling, playing golf, boating, fishing, and hunting, as well as gardening, camping, making salsa, and watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes. He also loved his dogs, Rachel and Maggie, and his herd of cattle. David leaves behind his father, James Schmitt; brothers: (twin) Dean Schmitt of Alta, Iowa; Chuck Schmitt of Alta, Iowa, and Matt (Jen) Schmitt of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters: Lora (Patrick) Crowe of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Karen Plendl of LeMars, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Hunter Schmitt of Rochester, Minnesota; Brandon Crowe of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kelly Crowe of Wayne, Nebraska; Alyssa Schmitt of Jackson, Wyoming; Lucas Schmitt of Des Moines, Iowa; Noah Schmitt of Humboldt, Iowa; Avery Schmitt of Sioux City, Iowa; Sydney Frese of Sioux City, Iowa; Kyle Plendl of Owens, Iowa; and Erika Plendl of Readlyn, Iowa. David was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Schmitt, and his brother, Allan Schmitt. Private services were held by the immediate family.
