Dale E. Wetherell Sr.

Dale Wetherell Sr., age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, Iowa. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Dale Earl Wetherell was born May 29, 1929 to Ralph and Ila Wetherell in Sulphur Springs, Iowa. He grew up in Sulphur Springs, then worked as a farmhand until October 1946 when he enlisted in the U. S. Army. Dale was awarded a WWII victory medal and Occupation Medal of Japan. He served until his discharge on September 22, 1949. After returning home from his military service, Dale worked at a resort in the Catskills, New York. This is where he met the love of his life, Rose. Dale and Rose were united in marriage on October 28, 1961 in Plains, Pennsylvania. They were blessed with three children: Robert, Lissa, and Dale Jr. In 1969, Dale and Rose moved their family from New Jersey to Newell, Iowa. Dale and his brother Chuck, founded and co-owned Wetherell Excavating and Trucking in Storm Lake until Dale’s retirement in 1994. Later in life, Dale served in AMVETS and took part in the Honor Guard. During retirement, he loved to tinker and fix up old toys to take to Mexico and hand out to children at Christmas while wintering in Texas. He also volunteered at the SOS Store in Storm Lake. In his free time, Dale loved golfing, playing cards, and going to coffee with his friends. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were Dale’s greatest joy. His eyes would light up anytime that he was able to be with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Left to cherish Dale’s memory include his children: Robert (Natasha) Wetherell of Storm Lake, Iowa; Lissa (Tony) Izzo of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Dale Jr. (Barb) Wetherell of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Sean Wetherell; Josh (Dianna Lai) Wetherell; Amanda (Enrique) Gonzalez; Nicholas Izzo; Rebecca (Zachary) Weier; Benjamin (Sara) Wetherell; step granddaughter: Vika; great-grandchildren: Danika, Asher, and Asuna Wetherell; Quinn Volkert; Atticus Wetherell; Lane Weier; Elijah Wetherell; brother: Denny (Faye) Wetherell; sisters: Sharron Hawkins; Shirley Francis; sister-in-law: Carol Wetherell; Erla Wetherell; Connie Wetherell; brother-in-law: Leonard (Lorraine) Gunsior; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Welcoming Dale into heaven is his beloved wife, Rose; parents: Ralph and Ila Wetherell; siblings: Cliff (Ruby) Wetherell; Marge (Dale) Dicks; Helen Frederickson; Bernice (Harold) Heschke; Burton (Marilyn) Wetherell; Chuck (Sophie) Wetherell; Dick Wetherell; Paul Wetherell; Bill Wetherell; Carol Anne; Glen (Norene) Wetherell; Darlene Renshaw: and Mary Katherine.
