Arleen Ivers

Arleen Ivers, age 88, of Schaller, Iowa died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 5:00 p.m. all at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Arleen Louise Bumann was born on January 27, 1930 to George and Lillie (Peckenschneider) Bumann on their farm near Hanover in Buena Vista County. She began her elementary education in a country school, Maple Valley No. 4 and later at St. John’s Parochial School. She went to Alta High School, graduating from there in 1946. She married Merle Madsen in 1946. They farmed near Rembrandt until 1960 when they moved to a farm near Schaller. Twelve children were born to this union: Carolyn, Michael, Susan, Joyce, Janet, Don, Patricia, Nancy, Shirley, James, Pamela, and Lori. They were divorced in 1978. Arleen married Henry Ivers in 1987. They continued living on the acreage near Schaller. Henry passed in 2003. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller and carried her faith in God throughout her life. After her children were raised, she worked at Ivers Lockers in Storm Lake and at Franz Implement in Schaller. Later she babysat with many children until retiring in 2005. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, and decorating cakes. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Carolyn Hunter; Susan (Ed) Naberhaus; Joyce (D.T.) Huster; Janet Madsen; Don Madsen; Patricia Babcock; Nancy Overmohle; Shirley (Keith) Adams; James Madsen; Pamela Adams; Lori Meyers; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: VerNelda & Mardell Bumann; step-children: Pearl (Alan) Dvorkin; Henry “Butch” (Sandi) Ivers; Lois (Dwain) Holmes; 8 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; and extended family. Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry in 2003; son, Michael in 1996; brothers, Orren and Eugene; sons-in-law, Butch Overmohle and Jim Hunter; and granddaughter, Sara Hunter.
