Willis Harlan Lussman

Willis Harlan Lussman, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral services will take place Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites by the AMVETS Post #66. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Willis was born April 24, 1930 in Grant Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa to Edward and Anna (Mohr) Lussman. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake on May 18, 1930, and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake on June 18, 1944. Willis attended grade school in Grant Township, and high school at Providence Consolidated at Sulphur Springs, Iowa, graduating in 1947. Willis entered Military Service on August 7, 1951 and was honorably discharged on August 5, 1953. On September 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Lorna Gerke. To this union of 64 years, were born three children: Wesley, Wanda, and Wayne. Willis was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, of which he was Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, and Elder for many years. He spent his entire life on the farm in partnership with Lorna, 34 years of which were side by side in the dairy business. He was A.S.C.S. Township and County Committeeman, enjoying working with farmers. Other time was spent collecting, restoring, and showing old Hart Parr and Oliver tractors, as a Charter Member of the Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association, and spent many years working with the Albert City Threshermen at Albert City, Iowa, and as a board member for nine years. He also enjoyed traveling, especially their trip to Germany, where he visited the original Lussman Farm and slept in his grandfather’s bed, and the many trips to see their children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lorna Lussman of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Wesley (Jean) Lussman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Wanda Cady of Albert City, Iowa; Wayne (Rita) Lussman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren: Melinda (Doug) Moore of Edmond, Oklahoma; James (special friend, Lisa and children, Jaxson and Ava) of Woodinville, Washington; Mason (Stephanie) Cady of Albert City, Iowa; great grandchildren: Ethan, Landon, and Charlotte Moor of Edmond, Oklahoma; Aiden and Brynlee Cady of Albert City, Iowa; sister, Arta (John) Harmon of Corydon, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Willis was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Anna Lussman; brothers: Darwin (Joanne) Lussman and Harold (Esther) Lussman; sisters-in-law: Neoma (Eldo) Bartels and Loraine (Darvin) Harth.
