Virgil Allen Nattress

Virgil A. Nattress, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Memorial services will be Friday, December 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Virgil Allen Nattress was born August 2, 1937 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Elsie (Marr) Nattress. In his youth, he was baptized and confirmed in his faith. Virgil attended Excelsior school in rural Lake Park, Iowa where he graduated from in 1955. On September 3, 1955, Virgil was united in marriage to Kay Zahn at the Harris United Methodist Church in Harris, Iowa. Virgil dedicated his free time to various groups in the Storm Lake Community. He was a volunteer for the Storm Lake Fire Department, Parade of Flags, Santa’s Castle, and helped with little league baseball. Virgil also assisted the Storm Lake AMVETS with special fundraisers. Throughout Virgil’s life, he enjoyed having coffee with his friends, fireman water fights, dancing with Kay at the Cobblestone, travelling, and even became famous for arm wrestling. Virgil was a big fan of Billy Graham, and once went to see him with his grandson, Brandon. Virgil was a racing fan and loved watching and attending Chicago Cubs baseball games. Most of all, Virgil was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Bill (Linda) Nattress of Sac City, Iowa; Teri (Kevin) Eddie of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Brandon (Kari) Nattress, Chuck (Sara) Nattress, Brenda (Brian) Schmitt, Katie (Cullen) Vredenburg, Brett Townsend, Geoff (Kenzie) Eddie; great grandchildren: Miles; Brock, Charlie, and Cooper; Sam, Carson, and Kennedy; Brayden; Quinn and Blair; sister, Virginia Holtz; extended family and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay in 2013; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Holtz.
