Vera Hallengren

Vera Hallengren, age 89, of Alta, Iowa died October 3, 2021 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, October 8, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Private Family Service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Burial will be at Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake, Iowa. The family requests masks to be worn. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Vera Elaine Hallengren was born February 4, 1932 to Francis and Lucille (Swinderman) Anderson in Laurens, Iowa. She was baptized in Rembrandt, Iowa. Vera was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. Vera went to school in Marathon, Iowa. On March 13, 1948, Vera was united in marriage to Clifford Hallengren in Storm Lake, Iowa. They were blessed with 7 children: Daniel, John, Shirly, Tom, Janet, Marsha, and David. Vera raised her seven rascals to be hard-working and kind adults. She showed an entrepreneurial spirit by operating a home sewing business for many years. She also worked for Ken-a-Bob and the newspaper, once her kids were launched. Vera loved to read, sew and crochet but her greatest passion was travel. In younger days she set off on 4-wheel adventures, but traveling with her kids overseas was what really satisfied her wanderlust. She was renowned for her Danish coffee cake, Swedish rye bread and canned goods.
