Tony Weiland

Tony Weiland, age 58, of Alta, Iowa died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will take place Monday, November 17, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Anthony Charles Weiland, the son of Charles and Ardyth (Grau) Weiland, was born on August 29, 1956 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hanover in rural Alta, Iowa. Tony attended school at Hanover through 8th Grade and High School in Alta. He graduated from Alta High School in 1974. On November 12, 1977, Tony was united in marriage to Kim Lyons at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. This union was blessed with four sons: Josh, Adam, Jon and Christian. They made their home in Alta. Tony worked for 28 years in engineering, with the last 14 years as Plant Engineer at Hillshire Brands in Storm Lake. Over the course of his life, Tony served on numerous boards and committees within his community including the Alta Park Board and coached baseball over 25 years for each of his boys. Additionally, Tony was an active member of Summit Evangelical Church, where he served on the Summit Worship Team. He was a proud fan of Iowa State sports, and enjoyed attending Cyclone football games. In his spare time, Tony enjoyed cooking, watching his boys play sports and singing on the Summit Worship Team. His greatest love and passion in life was his family, especially becoming a grandpa. Simply hearing “Papa Tony” from his grandkids brought him much joy. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 37 years, Kim Lyons-Weiland of Alta; sons: Joshua (Hannah) Weiland of Milford, Indiana; Adam (Jenna) Weiland of Plymouth, Minnesota; Jonathan (Melissa) Weiland of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Christian Weiland of Alta (currently enrolled at Iowa State); grandchildren: Wynn Anthony and Nora June Weiland of Plymouth, Minnesota; mother, Ardy Barber of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Colleen (Al) Roberts of Norwalk, Iowa; extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Weiland.
