Susan N. Taylor

Susan Taylor, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Susan Naomi Whittlesey was born April 14, 1937 in Pocahontas County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Inez (Carmer) Whittlesey. She attended country school and later in Gilmore City, Iowa and graduated from Gilmore City High School. Susan began her courtship with Norman Lee Taylor while in high school and they continued while Norm was in the service, and she attended Methodist Hospital School for Nurses in Sioux City. They were united in marriage on October 11, 1958 in Gilmore City. Together they were blessed with two children, Darwin and Sandra. Susan and Norman moved to Storm Lake where she began working at the Buena Vista County Hospital. She later worked at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Susan was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. She was a part of the United Methodist Women, Women’s Circle, and the church choir. In her spare time, Susan enjoyed her pets, gardening, baking, and watching old television shows. Most of all, she loved caring for her family and spending time with them. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Darwin (Jody) Taylor of Storm Lake, Iowa; Sandra Taylor of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren, Laura Ryherd and Adam Taylor; great grandchildren: Aubree, Emma, Wylie, and Oliver; sister, Evelyn Petersen of Humboldt, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Norma Hauck of Livermore, Iowa; Barbara (Gary) Kannenberg of Junction City, Kansas; Frieda Sherrill of Sioux City, Iowa; brothers-in-law: George (Jean) Taylor of Amelia Island, Florida; Frank (Jane) Taylor of Brandon, South Dakota; extended family and friends. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Thomas and Leila Taylor; husband, Norman; brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Marietta Whittlesey; brothers-in-law: Knute Petersen, Al Sherrill, Wally Hauck; and nephew, Keith Taylor.
