Ronald Buchholz

Ronald Buchholz, age 82, of Newell, Iowa died Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home in rural Newell. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Ronald Buchholz was born June 18, 1933 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Ernest and Martha (Bolte) Buchholz. As an infant, he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed and remained a lifelong member. Growing up, Ronnie attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Albert City High School in 1951. On August 4, 1963, Ronnie was united in marriage to Janet C. Halverson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with two daughters: Nancy and Jorja. Ronnie and Janet loved playing in a card club together. He also participated in dart ball. Ronnie had a passion for the farm and his livestock. He was very sharp with math and loved watching sports. In the last few years, Ronnie enjoyed golfing. Ronnie loved visiting with people and never met a stranger. When Janet became afflicted with health problems, Ronnie lovingly and faithfully cared for her in their home. Her illness forced her into the Methodist Manor Retirement Community where Ronnie became a daily fixture. It was there that he made many friends with other residents and staff. Ronnie and Janet were blessed to celebrate 48 wedded years together. Ronnie loved being a grandpa and treasured the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Nancy (Allan) Janss of Johnston, Iowa; Jorja (Brad) Gibbins of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Aubrey and Evan Janss of Johnston, Iowa; Chelsey and Nicole Gibbins of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Sieg Buchholz of Osage Beach, Missouri; sister-in-law, Joelle McIlroy of Alliance, Ohio; nieces: Kathie Buchholz and Dawn (Mark) Tamboli; nephews, Mark Buchholz and Andy McIlroy; extended family and many friends. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; sister, Waltraut Buchholz; sister-in-law, Norma Buchholz; brother-in-law, Robert McIlroy; and his parents-in-law.
