Roger Lee Stephan

Roger L. Stephan, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa died August 25, 2016 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, August 29, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present the entire time. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Roger Lee Stephan was born July 14, 1941 in Storm Lake the son of Leonel “Bill” and Esther (Skow) Stephan. As an infant, Roger was baptized January 19, 1942 at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa and later confirmed on March 29, 1953 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Growing up, Roger attended school in the Storm Lake Community School District. While attending high school, he enjoyed playing football. On April 3, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to Aletha Mae Anderson at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with five children: Randall Lee, Bryan James, Cheri Lynn, Robin Annette, and Angela Mae. As a young lad, Roger was a bat boy for the Storm Lake White Caps Semi Pro baseball team. It was then he developed his love for baseball which led him to becoming a board member and coaching Little League Baseball for many years. He led the team to a 2nd place finish in the state. He also coached softball for the men’s slow pitch softball for several years. Roger was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. He served on the Storm Lake Fire Department for 20 years and was a Cub Scout member. Spending time with children and grandchildren and attending their activities was very important to Roger. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and making crafts and going to various craft shows. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed traveling to different places. Some of those places include, Branson, Missouri; Dover, Delaware; Arvada, Colorado and the Amana Colonies. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 wonderful years, Aletha Mae Stephan of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Randy (Rachel) Stephan of Alta, Iowa; Bryan Stephan (special friend, Tina Leewright) of Storm Lake, Iowa; Cheri (Wade) Nehring of Storm Lake, Iowa; Robin Stephan of Storm Lake, Iowa; Angie Andrade of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Justin (Katie) Nehring; Alex Stephan; Aric Stephan; Adam Stephan; Cambrie Andrade; Myiah Andrade; Aaron Zimmer; Lexi Moon; great grandchildren: Camden and Stryker Hidden; Kellan Cowell; brother: Dick (Pam) Stephan of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters: Maureen (Larry) Oster of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Marcia (Mike) Lane of Arvada, Colorado; sister-in-law, Nancy Kalbaum; special friends, Jay and Misty Nissen and daughter; many cousins; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Esther Stephan; mother-in-law, Lois Whalen; daughter-in-law, Lisa Stephan; grandparents; aunts and uncles; cousin, Curt McVey; brother-in-law, Armin Klima.
