Richard Johnson

Richard Johnson, age 66, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, September 16, 2017 in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Richard Allen Johnson, the son of Herbert and Elda (Gerke) Johnson was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on May 18, 1951. He was baptized on June 3, 1951 and confirmed June 5, 1966, at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He attended school in Storm Lake and graduated from the Storm Lake High School in 1969. Following his graduation, he joined his father in his farming operation near Storm Lake. Richard loved everything about the farm. He enjoyed working in the fields and raising livestock, especially cattle. In addition to farming, he worked various jobs for his friends and other farmers. He was always willing to lend a helping hand either on the farm or around the household as well. Richard was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Church was very important to Richard and he truly enjoyed being able to help with ushering and visiting with others before and after church. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends: niece, Christy, nephew, Michael, and his wife, Dana, and their son, Lakota, his great niece, CyLee Case and her son, Jaxon, and nephews Alex Case and Andrew Baker. Richard loved farming, raising cattle, lending a helping hand, music, bicycling, attending cattle sales and shows, and visiting with friends about the crops and the weather. He cherished spending time with his great nephew, Lakota, putting together puzzles and playing farm. He will be remembered as a kind and compassionate caregiver to his father and mother. He is survived by his sister, Joan (Gary) Christen; niece, Christy; nephew, Michael (Dana) Christen; great niece, Cylee Case; and great nephews: Alex Case, Andrew Baker and Lakota Christen. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Elda; and many aunts and uncles.
