Raymond Harry Rassler

Raymond H. Rassler, age 63, of Rembrandt, Iowa died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will take place Monday, April 11, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Raymond Harry Rassler, the son of Albert and Isabelle (Boettcher) Rassler, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on April 16, 1952. He lived his youth and received his education in the Storm Lake community. Ray was baptized as an infant at the Methodist Church. Ray served his country in the United States Army from June 27, 1972 until June 17, 1974. Following his honorable discharge, Ray served in the Iowa National Guard until retiring from military service in February of 2001. While in the military, Ray served in the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the invasion of Grenada and Desert Storm as an airborne ranger. On September 2, 1972, Ray was united in marriage to Sally Platt in Elk Point, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with two daughters: Malissa and Nicole. Following their marriage, they resided in Spring Lake, North Carolina while he was stationed at Fort Bragg. Following his discharge, they moved to Storm Lake where he was employed at Hy-Grade Foods. He later worked at Wilson Foods in Cherokee. In 1979, the family moved to Rembrandt and Ray was employed at Ranco Manufacturing in Sioux Rapids for the next 28 years. Ray was a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed camping, fishing, watching westerns on television, reading his favorite Louis L’Amour western novels, and manufacturing Christmas angels and military silhouettes. Ray was an important contributing member of the Rembrandt community serving as a first responder and he was always quick to help anyone who had a need. Ray and his cat, Figero “Figgy” were inseparable. Ray was proud of his two granddaughters who held a very special place in his heart and life. Ray’s life will always be honored, cherished, and celebrated by his family which include his wife, Sally of Rembrandt, Iowa; daughters: Malissa Hefner of Everly, Iowa; Nicky Rassler of Alta, Iowa; granddaughters: Kendra Rassler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Chloe Hefner of Spencer, Iowa; brothers: Edmund Rassler of Lonedell, Missouri; Kenneth (Becky) Rassler of Rembrandt, Iowa; sisters: Annabelle (Ron) Chindlund of Cherokee, Iowa; Margaret “Peg” Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Velma Totten of Rembrandt, Iowa; Nadine “Dee” (Kelly) Meyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Jerry Buckendahl of Alta, Iowa; Patrick (Debra) Platt of Holstein, Iowa; many aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vernice Buckendahl; nephews, Troy and Scotty Chindlunkd; and brother-in-law, Gordy Totten.
