Phyllis J. Ehlers

Phyllis J. Ehlers, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa died September 26, 2022 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm lake. Funeral services will take place Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Phyllis Jean Ehlers was born January 31, 1941 to Wilbert and Velma (Schuldt) Harms in Clarinda, Iowa. She was baptized in 1941 and confirmed in 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Phyllis grew up attending school at Albert City-Truesdale School, graduating in 1959 as Valedictorian of her class. She attended the University of Iowa and in 1967, she graduated with her BSN in Nursing. On December 3, 1967, Phyllis married Dwayne Roger Ehlers at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with three sons: Dan, Tim, and Jeff. Dwayne and Phyllis were members of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid and served on numerous committees. Phyllis loved attending church and was passionate about serving others and growing in her faith. Phyllis could be found tending to her garden, shopping, sewing, or traveling. More than anything, Phyllis treasured her time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dan Ehlers (fiancé Zoe McManama) of Newell, Iowa; Tim (Taffy) Ehlers of Lakeville, Minnesota; Jeff (Jen) Ehlers of Woodbury, Minnesota; brothers: Wayne (Barbara) Harms of Newberg, Oregon; Marvin Harms of Boise, Idaho; Curtis (Pat) Harms of Sheldon, Iowa; sister: Marleen (Bob) Otto of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Jenny (partner, Ryan Paterson) Ahlers of Lakeside, Iowa; Ryan (Elizabeth) Ahlers of Iowa City, Iowa; Maddy and Chase Ehlers of Woodbury, Minnesota; Gage, Avery, and Ryan Ehlers of Lakeville, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn (Trevor) Larson of Alta, Iowa; Irelyn Ahlers of Lakeside, Iowa; Isabella Ahlers and Andrew Peterson of Cleghorn, Iowa; River and Amelia Ahlers of Iowa City, Iowa; and great-great-grandchild: Nash Larson of Alta. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents: Wilbert and Velma (Schuldt) Harms; spouse: Dwayne Ehlers; daughter-in-law: Dorene Ehlers; aunt: Meta Schuldt; sister: Myrtice Harms; sister-in-law: Linda Harms; grandson: Craig Ahlers.
