Pearl Kathryn Wandrey

Pearl Kathryn Wandrey, age 93, of Schaller, Iowa died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Pearl Kathryn (Fitzsenry) Wandrey was born August 26, 1922 in Breda, Iowa to Raymond and Bernadine (Wolterman) Fitzsenry. Pearl attended Catholic school in Breda where as a first grader she had to room with the nuns in town during the week and went home on the weekends. Pearl’s family moved to Schaller in 1928 where she attended Cook Center School south of Schaller. She spent her junior year at Galva Consolidated and graduated from Schaller High School in 1940. While in high school, Pearl played basketball, and told the story of how her team of women played a game against the original Harlem Globetrotters. Pearl worked as a telephone operator in Schaller and also worked for Jessie Deitering at Keenan’s Café and at Andy’s Café and later helped with the school lunch program in Schaller. Pearl met and later married Kenneth (Bud) Wandrey on February 11, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller where they were married in a double wedding with good friends Don and Gladys Kestel. Together, Bud and Pearl were blessed with nine children: Clyde, Mary, Connie, Kathy, Mark, Patty, Sam, Janette and David. They continued to be faithful members of St. Joseph’s throughout their lives, where they baptized and confirmed all of their children. Bud and Pearl lived and farmed on the west edge of Schaller through their married life, until Bud’s death in 1993. Pearl continued to live on the farm until she moved to North Lake Manor in May of 2014. Pearl always enjoyed canning, baking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are their nine children: Clyde (MaryKaye) Wandrey, Mark (Wendy) Wandrey, Sam Wandrey, David (Mary Beth) Wandrey, Mary Webber, Connie Wandrey, Kathy (Randy) Miller, Patty (Terry) Miller, and Janette Woodke; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; brother, Clare (Simone) Fitzsenry; sister-in-law, Lucille Fitzsenry; brother-in-law, Chuck Ford; brother and sister-in-law, DeWayne and Arlene Brown and many extended family members and friends. Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; two sons-in-law, Willis Webber and Wes Woodke; brothers: Kenneth (Wilma), Robert (Thelma), Glenn (Mona Lou), Roy, Chuck, and James Fitzsenry; sisters: Ila Fitzsenry, Fay Hermanson, and Carol Ford.
