Norma Schemmel

Norma E. Schemmel, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Remsen, Iowa died August 19, 2021 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Church in REMSEN, Iowa. Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Norma was born on April 8, 1940 at Battle Creek, Iowa to Leo and Elizabeth (Schleimer) Schimmer. She was baptized in the Catholic Faith in Anthon, Iowa and later confirmed there. Norma first attended a country school through the 2nd grade. Her parents bought a farm in Galva, Iowa, where Norma graduated from high school. She continued her education at A.I.B. Business School in Sioux City, Iowa. She then landed her first job at Grandy Pratt Insurance in Sioux City, Iowa. On April 17, 1963, Norma was united in marriage to Robert Schemmel in Holstein, Iowa at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. They made their home in Remsen, Iowa and were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved doing teller work at the American Bank in Remsen, Iowa. She later went to Northwest Bank in LeMars, Iowa after Robert’s passing. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and being with family. She enjoyed meeting friends at Conner’s in Remsen after work. Norma was a resident of Methodist Manor Nursing Home in Storm Lake, Iowa for the past 8 years receiving excellent care. Survivors include sister, Shirley (Dewyne) Stucynski of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Leo (Terri) Schimmer of Holstein, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Janet Schimmer of Storm Lake, Iowa; Janet (Marie) Schimmer of Galva, Iowa; brother-in-law, Allen (Bev) Johnson of Hinton, Iowa; and many relatives and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Leo and Elizabeth Schimmer; paternal parents, Clarence and Viola Schemmel; brothers: Paul Schimmer; Elvin Schimmer; sister, Corrine Johnson; sister-in-law, Wilma Schimmer.
