Norma Boisen

Norma Boisen, age 90, of Schaller, Iowa died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 3-6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Norma Louise Sanderman was born July 29, 1923 in Eden Township, Schaller, Iowa to Henry F. and Minnie (Stille) Sanderman. Norma attended Country School Eden No. 9 east of Schaller for 8 years. She then attended Schaller High School graduating in May 1940. In 1943 she started work at Westerman Lumber Company, and Edward’s Lumber in Storm Lake and Schaller as a bookkeeper. She was also a bank teller at the Schaller Bank and Savings for several years. In July of 1962, Norma was appointed secretary of the board of education for Schaller Community Schools, retiring in 1985. On September 14, 1948, she was married to Norman Boisen at the Immanual Reformed United Church of Christ in Rural Schaller. To this union, two children were born, Lee Norman and Joanne Kay. Norma loved music especially playing the organ and piano. She accompanied many soloists while in high school and also played for the Immanual Reformed United Church of Christ services. She also played for many wedding ceremonies over the years. Norma enjoyed poetry, doing word search, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. Norma and her husband Norman liked big bands and going dancing, which they did most Saturdays. She had been on the Schaller park board and was a former Cub Scout den mother. Norma was a witty individual, and always lived her life with spunk. The twinkle in her eyes was for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Norma is survived by her son, Lee (Kay) Boisen; daughter, Joanne (Maurice) Noll; six grandchildren: Bryan (Marie) Boisen; Matt (Dorcha) Boisen; Kelli (Mike) Brown; Sara (Jeremy) Schwertfeger; Justin (Nicole) Noll; and Stacey (Kevin) Mickelson; 11 great-grandchildren: Emmerson, Peyton and Gavin Boisen; Luella and Billie Boisen; Zoe Brown; Trey and Charlee Schwertfeger; Cooper, Keaton, and Decker Mickelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; parents; sister, Verna (Everett) Ploeger; and an infant sister.
