Myrna Edwards

Myrna Edwards, age 85, of Newell, Iowa died November 12, 2012 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell. Myrna Joy Skeels was born April 2, 1927 in Storm Lake, Iowa the daughter of Frank Albert and Anna Christina (Pedersen) Skeels. She was welcomed home by her older sister, June Elizabeth. She attended the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake where she accepted Christ as her savior and she was baptized at 11 years old by immersion. Growing up, Myrna attended school in Storm Lake where she graduated in 1944. Following high school graduation, she worked at the telephone office on the south end of main street in Storm Lake before attending Buena Vista College where she studied to become an Art Teacher. On June 12, 1949, Myrna was united in marriage to Francis Edwards at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with four children: Doug, Randy, Laurie, and Melinda. Myrna was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell where she played the piano and organ for church and Sunday School. She also taught Sunday School for 13 years. Myrna enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, handwork, and painting. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Francis. Myrna had a passion for pitching horseshoes. In the 70â€™s and 80â€™s, she competed in horseshoe pitching and won a State competition. Myrna treasured spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Francis Edwards of Newell, Iowa; children: Doug (Debbie) Edwards of Southlake, Texas; Randy (Dyann) Edwards of Newell, Iowa; Laurie (Rodney) Rasmussen of Newell, Iowa; Melinda (Tony) Buchholz of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Heather (Andre) Bruce; Zach (Courtney) Edwards; Jason (Kristi) Edwards; Steve (Julie) Edwards; Bryce (Ashly) Edwards; Lynde Edwards; Taryn (Shawn) Colburn; Dak (Leigh) Rasmussen; Leigh (Brent) Meyer; Brett (Alicia) Buchholz; Chad Buchholz; great grandchildren: Alannah and Zoey Bruce; James and Hunter Edwards; Slade and Sloan Edwards; Brandon and Jordan Edwards; Caydance and Dylan Edwards; Landon Edwards; MadIiyn and Lillyan Colburn; Will, Nora and Maggie Rasmussen; Garrett, Caden and April Meyer; Josiah Buchholz; nieces, nephews; extended family and friends. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Skeels, and her sister, June Elizabeth Skeels.
