Mary Rydberg

Mary Rydberg, age 73, of Schaller, Iowa died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Okoboji or Mission Central. The Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Jean Wiese was born November 17, 1943 in Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of George and Wilma (Popp) Wiese. As an infant, Mary was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, where she later confirmed her faith in 1957. Mary attended school in Schaller, graduating from Schaller High School in 1961. On September 1, 1962, Mary was united in marriage to Ronald Gene Rydberg at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Together, they were blessed with three children: Maria Lynn, Ross Alan, and Karen Beth. Mary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. She was active as a Confirmation teacher and the Ladies Aid treasurer. She was also a member of the Galva Booster Club and various Bridge Clubs, including No Deal and Bridgettes. Mary loved spending time with her family and always treasured the time spent with them in Okoboji each year. She enjoyed collecting pheasants. Mary will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and caregiver for her sister, Susan. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ronald Rydberg of Schaller, Iowa; children: Maria (T.R.) Turner of Palatine, Illinois; Ross (Lisa) Rydberg of Overland Park, Kansas; Karen (Ty) Currier of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Joshua (Mackenzie) Rydberg of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Matthew Turner of Chicago, Illinois; Michael Rydberg of Overland Park, Kansas; Marissa Turner of Palatine, Illinois; Patrick Rydberg of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, James (Nancy) Wiese of Iowa City, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law: LuVerne (Marge) Rydberg of Alta, Iowa; LaMerle Wilson of Holstein, Iowa; Marlys Bennett of Storm Lake, Iowa; Janice Rydberg of Schaller, Iowa; and extended family and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Wilma (Popp) Wiese; brothers, Paul and Thomas Wiese; sister, Susan Wiese; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Ethel (Carlberg) Rydberg; brothers and sisters-in-law: Relaine (Eugene) Grotjohn, Lois Rydberg, Roy Wilson, Dwayne Rydberg, Bruce Bennett, and Joetta Rydberg.
