Mary Elizabeth King

Mary E. King, age 91, of Urbandale, formerly of Storm Lake, died on Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Johnston. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Elizabeth Dewey was born July 28, 1926 to Dr. J.R. and Eva (Hall) Dewey in Schaller, Iowa. She was baptized at the Schaller Presbyterian Church in 1926 and later confirmed her faith in 1939. Mary attended school in Schaller and was a part of the graduating class of 1943. After her high school graduation Mary attended Grinnell College and graduated from Gregg Business College in 1946. On August 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. King at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Mary and Herb were classmates and started dating in high school. This union was blessed with five children: Steven, Thomas, Barbara, Susan, and Mark. Mary was an active member of both the Schaller Presbyterian Church and Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. She served both churches as a Deacon and Elder. She worked as a homemaker and a secretary. She was also an active member of PEO and Order of the Eastern Star. Mary enjoyed traveling to Arizona and took great pride in her family and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Herb and Mary moved to Urbandale, Iowa to be closer to family. Those left to cherish her memory include her five children: Steven (Susan) King, Douglasville, GA; Thomas King, Johnston, IA; Barbara (Jeff) Blough, Johnston, IA; Susan (Wayne) Bates, Mesa, AZ; Mark (Jackie) King, Urbandale, IA. Her eleven grandchildren: Candace (Scott) Foerst, Atlanta, GA; Brian (Erin) King, Nantucket, MA; David King, Newport Beach, CA; Aaron (Kelli) King, West Des Moines, IA; Sarah (Reggie) Voyles, Sac City, IA; Lisa (Mat) Beaman, Ankeny, IA; Melanie (Jason) Broich, Clive, IA; Michele (Kirk) Nelson, Nixa, MO; Michael (Darcy) Bates, Goodyear, AZ; Allison King, Kansas City, MO and Adam King, Urbandale, IA. Her fourteen great grandchildren: Fiona and Sienna Foerst; Sydney and Kinnick King; Charlie King; William, Landon and Millie Voyles; Madelynne and Cody Broich; Brock and Brynn Nelson; Kylie and Kolbie Bates. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Allegra King; step father-in-law, D.J. Bennett; brothers-in-law, Wilfred King, Joseph King and Linton Lehrer; sisters-in-law Rosemary and Mabel King; daughter-in-law Colette King and granddaughter Laura King.
