Mary Ann Brisbois

Mary Ann Brisbois, age 86, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Fonda, Iowa died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Denver. Born on March 10, 1928 in Pocahontas, Iowa, Mary Ann Heathman was the daughter of Elmer and Marie (Mullen) Heathman. As an infant, she was baptized into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, Iowa. Mary Ann attended school at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Fonda, where she graduated in 1946. After graduation, Mary Ann attended two years at Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois. On May 17, 1949, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Jack Brisbois in Fonda, Iowa. Together they were blessed with three children: Frank, Joanne, and Mary Rose. Mary Ann stayed home to raise her children, but, in the second half of her life, she was instrumental in the Fonda Insurance Agency with Jack, and worked with him for more than 40 years. Mary Ann was very active in the OLGC church as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Holy Family Society. She lived her faith daily and was a great source of comfort and a role model within her community. Mary Ann lived in the town of Fonda for 85 years. In May 2013, she moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to her children. She enjoyed her new home and made many wonderful new friends. In her spare time, Mary Ann loved to read, go on walks, and watch both Notre Dame football games and golf tournaments. Mary Ann was an avid fan of Tiger Woods. Mary Ann also had a passion for traveling. She especially enjoyed the vacation that she and Jack took to Hawaii as well as a trip to Ireland and Scotland with her sister, Peggy. Most of all, Mary Ann loved spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Frank (Kaye) Brisbois of Antioch, Illinois; Joanne Harrison of Aurora, Colorado; Mary Rose (Paul) Owen of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Kim Cygan-Brisbois (wife of Jonathan, deceased) of Round Lake, Illinois; Jenny (Tim) Popp of Lake Villa, Illinois; Mindy (Tim) Ungvarsky of Parma, Ohio; Travis Owen of Batesville, Arkansas; Ryan Owen of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren: Raymond, Regina, Jack, and Manny Brisbois; Katie, Maggie, and Sammy Popp; Jackson and Luke Ungvarsky; sister, Peggy (Heathman) McCartan of Blue Springs, Missouri; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family and friends. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Elmer and Marie; and grandson, Jonathan Brisbois.
